      > I have worked in political campaigns for many years but have not yet served in an elected position. The campaigns and candidates I have assisted have gone on to serve their respective constituents well but have uniformly told me how important it is for the citizenry, not the professional politicians, to remain active and committed in how their government works.

Over the years, I have seen both Democrats and Republicans continue to increase the tax burden and waste our resources on failed energy programs, ignore a failing educational system, and create many poorly conceived and government-operated programs. The failure of the 2-party system to behave as a check-and-balance to one another has come to a breaking point.

California voters are tired of the status quo and are looking for drastic changes in leadership. The fallout from the recent Davis recall and subsequent selection of Governor Schwarzenegger can be indicative of the public's desire for change and a windfall to third-party candidates this year. As a Libertarian candidate, I have the advantage of running free of the encumberances imposed by special interest groups and party-imposed restrictions on issues and platform.

California now has the worst bond rating in its history (the lowest in the country) and our current elected officials seem unwilling to make the difficult choices to reduce the size and intrusiveness of state government. We must make dramatic cuts in state-sponsored programs and eliminate waste like never before. I will remain committed to making government more responsible and effective both as an elected official and in my private life.

(Must be answered)

      > More than any other issue, abortion rights has polarized not only California’s citizens, but the entire nation. The government, either state or federal, has no business in telling its citizenry how their individual choices are to be made. Many argue that abortion is not a choice but rather a life and as such, the government has an obligation to protect the innocent. As a California State Senator, I will fight to omit any and all government involvement in the abortion issue. That means no funding of abortion procedures, no sponsorship of the issue either pro or con, and no law abridging a women’s right to seek and obtain an abortion. With the help of medical professionals, California’s court system, and California residents, we must have important changes made in the legal terminology and attitude toward abortion. To make my position more clear, I support choice in the first trimester of a pregnancy, oppose abortion in the third trimester (except in cases whe re the mother's life is at risk) and will continue to seek out medical and legal expertise in defining abortion as it relates to a second trimester fetus.
